Grjótagjá is a natural hot spring that you used to be able to bath in until 1975 when the water became too hot after nearby volcanic activity. Besides being used as a redoubt for 18th-century Icelandic outlaw Jón Markússon the cave became famous among Game of Throne fans after a ‘steamy’ scene was take in the cave with John Snow and Ygritte. Even though the water is cooling down now, sometimes it’s still too hot to swim and falling rocks might endanger you trying to take a dip.⠀
