Tamo CrossOn the road to the Cotopaxi Vulcano you will come through a desert-like tundra which is called the paramo.In the 18th century, the scientist Alexander von Humboldt, who was staying in Ecuador, described the paramo as “inhospitable lands”. The region has repeatedly suffered from Earth Quakes and eruption of the active volcano which awoke in August 2015, after decades of slumber and the park had to be closed for several months. ⠀
